Florida’s ban on gay adoption came to an abrupt end on Oct.12 when the Florida Department of Children and Families opted not to appeal the adoption of two brothers by Frank Martin Gill of North Miami. This marks the end to a heinous law that allowed gay people to care for foster children but denied them the right to a proper family.

Could Meg Whitman revive the appeal of Prop 8?  yes indeed...

Largest NH paper won’t print gay marriage notices reports SFGATE.com.  New Hampshire is one of five states to have legalized gay marriage. Two men getting married in Portsmouth on Saturday wanted to publish a marriage notice in the Union Leader of Manchester but were refused.

Next month, eight UK couples will kick off a campaign to overturn gay marriage bans and bring just one type of union all UK families.

MySanAntonio.com reports that Catholic leaders, while hypocritically condemning any prejudice against gay people, have discontinued a long-standing mass offered quietly for more than 15 years to the gay and lesbian community. As LezGetReal.com points out, the move leaves the San Antonio Gay Catholic community, which included many same-sex couples with children, searching for a church in which to meet.

  2. A must watch video from stop8.org that breaks down the blatant lies NOM, the ‘national organization for marriage’ is putting out once again to try to anger people re: the recent ruling declaring Prop 8 unconstitutional.  NOM’s video is full of their usual tactics of deceit.  It is all they have as reality eludes them time and time again.

  4. Separate Is Not Equal.  Our friends Stuart and John illustrate in this video the awkwardness of having a non-federally recognized marriage and that to be really equal we all need to be able to drink from the same fountain.  The video also goes on to satirically illustrate the difficulties of a the less advantageous civil union or domestic partnership that fall far short of the legal protections, rights and societal inclusiveness of marriage.

  5. At the courthouse today waiting with the bedrock couples of marriage equality: Stuart and John; Molly and Davina.  It was another moving day, moving in our hearts and moving in the right direction.  There were couples who had filled out marriage applications and were saddened to not be able to make a legal commitment to each other today.  Fingers crossed they can tie the knot next Wednesday.

  6. In one week…

So much positive ground has been made for marriage equality.  For those of you just joining us, and wonder why full marriage equality matters, it is simple.  All couples who are in love and committed to each other should be respected and protected by society equally.  Every child should share the same dream, the wonderful dream of growing up and falling in love, having a wedding surrounded by family and friends and sharing a life with someone else.

    This week in marriage equality:

TODAY: U.S. district judge Vaughn Walker will issue a ruling this morning on whether to allow marriages in California to begin again or stay a decision in the Proposition 8 case. We found this story which helps explain why this judge, who last week ruled the heinous prop 8 unconstitutional, might grant a stay and where we go from here.

  8. WHAT’S ON OUR NIGHTSTAND NOW:
Dr. Davina Kotulski’s “Why You Should Give a Damn About Gay Marriage” is a great entrée to the marriage equality canon. With chapters such as “Silly Rabbit, Marriage is for Heterosexuals!” this book is funny, concise and totally accessible to newcomers looking to brush up on the issues. (Recommended reading for Mom & Dad.)
Regulars in the marriage equality movement will likely recognize the author: Kotulski, a San Francisco psychologist, and her wife Molly McKay, Media Director for Marriage Equality USA, are tireless advocates for equality. If you’re at a rally in SF, look for the gal in a wedding dress (that’s Molly); Davina is probably close by.
