  1. THIS WEEK IN MARRIAGE EQUALITY

    10/24/10

Florida’s ban on gay adoption came to an abrupt end on Oct.12 when the Florida Department of Children and Families opted not to appeal the adoption of two brothers by Frank Martin Gill of North Miami. This marks the end to a heinous law that allowed gay people to care for foster children but denied them the right to a proper family.

Could Meg Whitman revive the appeal of Prop 8?  yes indeed...

Largest NH paper won’t print gay marriage notices reports SFGATE.com.  New Hampshire is one of five states to have legalized gay marriage. Two men getting married in Portsmouth on Saturday wanted to publish a marriage notice in the Union Leader of Manchester but were refused.

Next month, eight UK couples will kick off a campaign to overturn gay marriage bans and bring just one type of union all UK families.

MySanAntonio.com reports that Catholic leaders, while hypocritically condemning any prejudice against gay people, have discontinued a long-standing mass offered quietly for more than 15 years to the gay and lesbian community. As LezGetReal.com points out, the move leaves the San Antonio Gay Catholic community, which included many same-sex couples with children, searching for a church in which to meet.

Scotusblog.com announced that the Ninth Circuit Court has scheduled a two-hour hearing on the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage, to be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 6. Freedomtomarry.org is gathering more and more signatures in their Stand Up to Maggie campaign.  Maggie Gallagher, the unmarried face of the anti-marriage equality National Organization for Marriage (NOM), will receive a letter asking her to get out of the discrimination business and make a living off someone else’s back.

  2. John Cougar Mellencamp Tells NOM to back-off

It should be of no surprise to anyone fighting for marriage equality~ that the deceptively named “National Organization For Marriage” (NOM is against equal marriage rights for all) ~is up to their dirty tricks again.  This time they are trying to pull the wool over the American public’s eyes by making it look like John Cougar Mellencamp is on their side.  And well, he actually thinks we should have marriage equality in our “Little Pink Houses”.  And yes, that is the song they used.  Go figure.  Just when you thought they couldn’t look any more ignorant.  Snicker.  Reminds of the time they launched the site 2M4M.org  Hee Hee Hee Hee Ain’t that America home of the free ~Little pink houses for you and me!  Read the full story here on prop8trialtracker.com

  3. National Organization for Marriage drops $235K on Iowa TV campaign

Oy!  Maggie and her mob of malcontents are at it again.  Instead of focusing on their own families, if they indeed have one, they are dropping tons and tons of cash into Iowa to try to destroy the lives of happily married LGBT couples and to try to destroy the lives of three judges who enforced equal protection, as demanded by the Constitution.

Jason Hancock at the Iowa Independent reports that “the New Jersey-based anti-gay marriage group the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) spent more than $235,000 on a statewide television ad campaign calling for the rejection of  all three Iowa Supreme Court justices facing a judicial retention election in November” more…

  4. A must watch video from stop8.org that breaks down the blatant lies NOM, the ‘national organization for marriage’ is putting out once again to try to anger people re: the recent ruling declaring Prop 8 unconstitutional.  NOM’s video is full of their usual tactics of deceit.  It is all they have as reality eludes them time and time again.

  5. David Boise on the case against Prop 8

“One of the most invidious of the state-sponsored discriminations against gays and lesbians is the prohibition of gay and lesbian marriage”

“Times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper in fact serve only to oppress.”
