Chloé and I had our first wedding ceremony in Paris at a time when we could not be legally married in our home state of California.  Now, we are legally married in our home state of California at a time when other same gendered couples would like to be legally married but can’t.  Here is a story of a couple in France who are now a legally married same gendered couple at a time when no...

John Cougar Mellencamp Tells NOM to back-off
It should be of no surprise to anyone fighting for marriage equality~ that the deceptively named “National Organization For Marriage” (NOM is against equal marriage rights for all) ~is up to their dirty tricks again.  This time they are trying to pull the wool over the American public’s eyes by making it look like John Cougar Mellencamp is on their side.  And well, he actually...

Oy!  Maggie and her mob of malcontents are at it again.  Instead of focusing on their own families, if they indeed have one, they are dropping tons and tons of cash into Iowa to try to destroy the lives of happily married LGBT couples and to try to destroy the lives of three judges who enforced equal protection, as demanded by the Constitution.  Jason Hancock at the Iowa Independent reports that...

More straight families for marriage equality
Let’s add Ugly Betty alum,  Christopher Gorham, who played the adorable accountant Henry, to the list of of people who strongly support marriage equality.  Not only did he and his wife and three cuties kids pose for the NoH8 Campaign, the actor chose to use that image on the Today show this morning instead of another pic of the family. Yet another family who not only doesn’t worry...

Lawyers may move to recover Prop. 8 court costs
SFGate posted a story today indicating that once the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decides on the Aug. 4 ruling that overturned the ban on marriage equality in California, the pro-gay lawyers would seek MILLIONS from the anti-gay folks who defended the ban in court after California’s governor and attorney general refused to do so.

So much positive ground has been made for marriage equality.  For those of you just joining us, and wonder why full marriage equality matters, it is simple.  All couples who are in love and committed to each other should be respected and protected by society equally.  Every child should share the same dream, the wonderful dream of growing up and falling in love, having a wedding surrounded by...

David Boise on the case against Prop 8

The Atlantic’s latest story on the federal prop 8 trial has a video of David Boise discussing the trial and how he wishes it would have been televised, so that the people who oppose marriage equality could have seen the questions that the opposition had to answer on the stand and said to themselves,  ’How would I have answered those questions?’  Boise states that it is...

NY Votes Against Marriage: The Rainbow Lining
This morning, for the umpteenth time, we sat at the edge of our seats glued to our twin laptops—one tuned to the New York Senate’s live debate over marriage equality; the other tuned to TweetDeck, where our community (as always) banded together in solidarity and anticipation of a vote on our personal lives. For the umpteenth time, we held our breath and tried to fend off that...

Money Matters
Yesterday, the New York Times “Bucks” blog rolled out a new series, “What If You’re Gay?” The blog comes in response to an October 2, 2009 Times article, “The High Price of Being a Gay Couple,” which estimated that we, as a couple unmarried in the eyes of the federal government, will pay dearly for having fallen in love in a state of inequality, to the...

Dear loving LGBT couples of Maine, Tonight we sat glued to our twin laptops, separated only by a couple plates of reheated leftovers, compulsively refreshing the election results from your state. We shared a bottle of wine and surfed back and forth between the New York Times and the Bangor Daily News and the feeds of just about every live blogger known to us through Twitter so that we might stay...

Deny for Deny: Should Gays Boycott Straight Weddings? This week on Top Chef: Season 6, lesbian contestant Ashley Merriman got fired up about a wedding-related challenge because she and the show’s other LGBT contestants “are not allowed in that institution.” Her sense of conflict sparked discussion with fellow lesbian chef Preeti Mistry, who validated Merriman’s anger—saying that she herself has a...

The Great Nationwide Kiss-In Don’t you just love seeing lovebirds share a smooch on the bus or in the checkout at the grocery store? We do! Doesn’t it fill you up with joy to see joy manifest, to witness living proof that we all share a common purpose in this life? Cuz without love, life can feel pretty null and void. Unfortunately, not everyone sees it this way. Some folks say this...

Last week, we wrote here about the need for lgbt couples to secure marriage-like legal documentation—advanced healthcare directives, living wills and power of attorney—to protect them in cases of illness and emergency. Today, Washington Blade contributor Rebecca Armendariz penned, “Losing the Love of My Life: There is nothing more painful than the death of a partner—except being denied...
